10 Pet Positive New Years Resolutions
With the love and joy that they bring us every day, we believe that the health and happiness of our furry friends should be among our top priorities for the New Year ahead. Just like us, pets could benefit from improvements to their daily routines, but they can’t make resolutions on their own. Here are 10 ideas to start off 2024 on the right paw.
Resolution #1 - Exercise
Resolve to spend more time outside playing, walking, and exploring the world, even when the weather is cold. As long as you make sure your dog is warm enough and that you avoid winter hazards such as salted sidewalks and roads, your exercise routine can be all-seasons. We have carry some great winter essentials to ensure your dog is geared up and ready to go.
Resolution #2 - Schedule Playtime
Have you ever considered setting time aside, or adding regular play time with your pet into your daily routine. Whether in the morning, or first thing when you get home from work, playing with your pet not only enhances their day, but can actually raise your spirits too! Consider making regular time to go to the dog park. Give your cat a round of playtime with a feather toy or a laser light.
Resolution #3 - Double Check their Diet
A quick diet audit is a great idea no matter how good or bad you think your pet may be eating. It’s smart to look at what, when, and how much your pet is eating! Overfeeding is really easy for pet owners, if they just “eyeball” the amount of food they give their pets. A measuring cup to use for scooping is a quick fix for this!
Feeding healthier also starts with incremental changes, and at Doggie Style Pets we have the products that help feed a longer, more happier life. We are always introducing new ultra nutritious raw products that can be fed as a complete diet or a topper to your current kibble. We also encourage you to try out additions like Goat Milk, Bone Broth, or Pumpkin Supplements.
Resolution #4 - Groom a Bit More
here are multiple reasons why you should have your pet groomed! First, let’s talk about why we humans might enjoy it. Smell has to be at the top of the list. But you’ll also avoid ticks and fleas and have early detection on any skin related health issues. Other benefits include reducing ear infections, a nice, shiny coat, ridding of painful matts, and they just look better! Schedule a grooming appointment today.
Resolution #5 - Improve your Dog's Training
Having a dog that is well trained, obedient, happy, relaxed and responsive means that not only will your dog be easier to manage and be safer in potentially dangerous situations, but you will also get more pleasure from dog ownership and as a result, will be more likely to be closer with your dog. Try enrolling them in Doggie Style Pets University. Our 1 to 1 sessions eliminate group distractions, so your dog is able to focus on the training while you learn the commands and positive practices at the same time.
Resolution #6 - Schedule a Wellness Visit
A nose-to-tail exam is the perfect kick start to a healthy year. Having peace of mind in January, knowing that your pet has been fully checked is certainly a great way to start off the year. Moving forward you should have your veterinarian examine your pet at least once a year to make sure he or she is healthy and to help detect any potential problems early. If you live in Philadelphia, we highly recommend The Pet Mechanic.
Resolution #7 - Prioritize Their Teeth
By the time your pet is nearing 3 years old, it is likely that they have some early evidence of periodontal disease. This will continue to worsen and is even associated with issues found in the kidney, liver and heart muscles. Because of this, oral health is extremely important and should be checked during your pet’s exam. Good dental hygiene can increase the life expectancy for your pet. This one is a must the resolution list.
Resolution #8 - Out with the Old Toys
Just as we need to clear out our clutter from time to time, we sometimes need to do the exact same thing for our pets. Take a fresh look at your pet’s toy collection and stop holding on to old, tatty, and often germ-infested pet toys. Now’s the perfect time to do a good clear out, bring them into your nearest Doggie Style Pets and to give your pet something fun and new to play with.
